Lee County is located in the North-Eastern portion of Mississippi. The county was formed on December 10, 1866 and was named in honor of beloved Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

The county seat is Tupelo, birthplace of Elvis Presley. Other Lee County communities include: Baldwyn, Verona, Guntown, Nettleton, Plantersville, Saltillo, Shannon, Sherman, and Mooreville. In it's first census in 1870 there were 15,955 residents listed. In the last federal census in 2000 the population was 75,755.
